“Moralism”, the only solution to racism and hate
Even bears, whether black, brown or white, are not fighting each other. And we humans, we think that we are the best and the most intelligent species in the Universe, and yet some of us can still not get along with each other. Why?
Folks, sometimes I feel sad, disappointed and disgusted about what we all observed around us. How do you really feel when we still see humans fighting against each other for beliefs or looks... or betraying each other for love? Why? Even bears, whether black, brown or white, are not fighting each other. And we humans, we think that we are the best and the most intelligent species in the Universe, and yet some of us can still not get along with each other. Why? When I kept thinking about that, I came up with one answer: All this is happening because if a lack of what I call "Moralism". My goal today is not to sermonize you, but to share with you some idea of living together that I believe could make our lives and relationships better. But first, what's Moralism? It's not a religion, I made mine and I recall it whenever possible when interacting with people. Moralism is all about being moral when dealing with other. It's based only on one principle: "Put yourself on someone else shoe when dealing with him or her". In other words, don't make someone feel what you would not want him to make you feel, no matter what your differences are. It's a very simple of straightforward. Here are 2 examples where a dash of Moralism prevented or would prevent the worse from happening. In the Arab world for example, it can be very hard to feel safe when you do not look like the majority, or you have different beliefs than the majority. From my own experience spending 4 years in Morocco and dating Arab girls, I felt the pain of being different and dating Arab girls. But once see I have also learn is that Moralism has nothing to do with Religion. Back home, with my friends, I could find away to make life difficult for Moroccan Students in our country. But, thanks to Moralism, we put ourselves in the place of those students who did nothing wrong. It was not because I felt the pain of being different in Morocco that they also have to feel the pain. This second example is about love. I have a friend who was telling me a history about his friend from Ottawa and her wife from Calgary. The woman was very beautiful and her husband is a great businessman and has to travel frequently as required by his job. It took just a year of marriage that the husband realized that when he travelled for business, her wife who was not working would use the points he earned to travel to Fort McMurray and join her boytoy. My friend was telling that the man was so disappointed that he decided that he will never get married again, and the worse part, is that the woman kept the home he financed after they divorce. What was the problem from that story. Some people would argue that the woman felt so lonely that she could not keep herself from cheating and betraying her husband. What I see happen is just a lack of Moralism. If that woman kept herself on her husband shoe and imagine how she would feel if her husband did the same thing with another woman, with a little of common sense, she would act differently. Folks, I am not asking you to forget about your beliefs and convert to Moralism, but I am inviting to add everyday a little of Moralism on everything you do. The beauty of Moralism is it does not prevent you from practicing what you believe, it does not prevent you from liking or disliking anyone. It just ask you to understand one thing: We are all different, and if we accept that, we can live together in a world free of conflict. And if we do not, we will never get along and nobody will be in peace somewhere in the world. Think about it.
